10.09.2016 – Georgien

Von der Grenze zwischen der Türkei und Georgien wurde ich schon oft gewarnt. Das Prozedere kann für Autofahrer schon mal 3 Stunden dauern.

Als Fahrradfahrer ist man hier anscheinend stark im Vorteil. Innerhalb von nicht mal 15 Minuten überquerten wir diese Grenze. Man kann einfach an den Autos vorbeifahren und wird zum Ausreisen direkt an den Schalter vorgelassen.

I had been warned several times that the procedure at the Georgian border might take up to 3 hours at times. Apparently as a cyclist you have certain advantages here. It took us less than15 minutes to cross the border. You just pass the waiting cars and move on to the departure desk.

Für die Einreise nach Georgien wurden wir zu dem Fußgängerübergang geschickt. Das ist eine große Halle, die an eine Flugabfertigungshalle erinnert. Dort verlief die Grenzkontrolle auch recht problemlos. Allerdings wollte der Beamte, der meinen Pass kontrollierte mir erst nicht glauben, das es wirklich mein richtiger Pass ist. Ein Deutscher der „Filbo Frensch“ heißt, wollte er mir zuerst nicht abnehmen. Nach einigen kritischen Vergleichen meines Gesichts mit dem Passbild bekam ich aber trotzdem den Einreisestempel.

We were shown to the pedestrian crossing in order to enter Georgia. That is a big hall, reminding me of a terminal building. We had no problem in passing. First, though, the clerk didn’t want to believe that this was my real passport and that my real name was ‚Filbo Frensch‘. He couldn’t imagine a German by that name. After having observed my face thoroughly and compared it to the picture in my passport, he did give me the entry stamp.

Georgien ist ganz anders als die Türkei, das viel mir gleich auf. Hier gibt es orthodoxe Kirchen und der Verkehr ist sehr rau. Zudem sind die Autos in einem sehr oft bedauerlichen Zustand. Vielen fehlen die Stoßstangen und alle paar Kilometer bleibt ein Auto liegen.

Georgia is very different from Turkey, I noticed straight away. They have a lot of Orthodox churches there and traffic is really rough. Cars are in a deplorable state, many of them lack their bumpers and every so often you see a car having broken down.

Auf den Straßen sieht man fast keine Frauen mit Kopftüchern mehr. Als Fremdsprache wird meist nur Russisch verstanden. Es wird für Glücksspiel geworben. Alkohol ist hier wieder günstig erhältlich.

You hardly see women who wear headscarves here. Most people only speak Russian as a foreign language. They even advertise for gambling. Alcohol is cheap here.
