05.06.2016 – Kroatien

Nahezu zwei Wochen von meiner Tour bin ich schon in Kroatien.

Kroatien hat eine sehr abwechslungsreiche Landschaft zu bieten. Ich bin sowohl durch fast schon steppenhafte Landschaft, als auch durch Wald, sowie sumpfige oder felsige Gebiete gefahren. Während einer Tagesetappe erlebt man hier diesen Wechsel der Landschaft oft mehrfach.

It has been already two weeks of my tour that I am in Croatia.
Croatia has a very diverse landscape to offer. I have rolled both in the steppe landscapes but also through forests, as in marshy and rocky areas.
During a daily step I experience here this change of scenery often repeatedly.

Wer alleine reist ist nicht ständig alleine. Jeden Tag treffe ich viele Leute, Einheimische, Touristen oder andere Radreisende. Dauernd wollen Leute von mir ein Foto machen, sie hupen oder winken mir aufmunternd zu. Und falls ich doch mal alleine bin, heißt das noch lange nicht das ich einsam bin. Meist genieße ich dann die Ruhe.

The one who travels alone is not constantly alone. Every day I meet a lot of people : native, tourists and other bike-travellers. People want constantly to make a picture of me, they honk me or make me a sign to encourage me. And even when I am alone it’s not for a long time. So most of the time I enjoy the silence.

Wenn ich nicht gerade Radfahre, lese ich, pflege meine Ausrüstung oder schreibe in mein Tagebuch. Ich werde auch öfters zum Essen oder Übernachten eingeladen. Das freut mich immer besonders. So kann ich als Gast sehen wie das Leben, abseits der Touristenströme wirklich ist. Ich muss sagen, bisher bin ich sehr zufrieden.

When I am not biking I read, I take care of my equipment or I write in my logbook. I am also often invited to eat or stay for the night. This always particularly delights me. And so I can, far from crowds of tourists, as a host see how life actually is.   I must say that until now I am very satisfied.

Erstaunlich finde ich, dass ich es bisher kaum mit Muskelkater oder anderen Beschwerden zu tun hatte. Außerdem war ich noch keinen Tag krank, obwohl ich dauernd draußen schlafe. Dazu war es öfters mal nass und kalt und das Umfeld ist auch nicht immer so hygienisch wie zu Hause. Anscheinend ist die Frischluft und die viele Bewegung gut für mich.

I found surprising that until now I have not had too much sore muscles or other discomforts. Moreover I have not been sick a day while I sleep outside. In addition it was often wet and cold and the environment is not always as hygienic as at home. Apparently fresh air and lots of exercise is good for me.

Hin und wieder merke ich aber, dass ich ziemlich müde und manchmal etwas antriebsschwach bin. Dann lege ich ein Pausentag ein und am nächsten Morgen geht es mit frischem Elan weiter.

However I realize that sometimes I am a little tired and that sometimes I ride low. So I foresee a day of rest and the next day I found a new energy .

Von den bisher bereisten Ländern kann ich nicht sagen, welches Land mir am besten gefallen hat. Jedes Land ist auf seine Art schön und auf alle Fälle eine Reise wert.

Among the countries visited so far I cannot say which I preferred .Every country is beautiful in its own way , and all are worth the trip.

05.06.2016 – Kroatien

Hallo zusammen,

aktuell bin ich jetzt in der Nähe der sehr bekannten Stadt Dubrovnik, im Süden von Kroatien. Morgen werde ich bereits die Grenze zu Montenegro überschreiten.

Hello everyone,

Currently I am now near the famous city of Dubrovnik , in southern Croatia. Tomorrow I will already pass the border with Montenegro.

Nach jetzt auf den Tag genau zwei Monaten auf Tour, ist es mal Zeit ein Zwischenfazit zu ziehen. Zur Feier des Tages gönne ich mir heute einen Tag Radfrei Mittlerweile bin ich mehr als 3200 Kilometer mit dem Fahrrad gefahren.

After two months on tour precisely today it is time to draw a preliminary conclusion. To celebrate this day I will grant me today a day without biking, because during this time I rolled with my bike more than 3200 kilometres.

Während den letzten beiden Monaten habe ich viel erlebt. Vieles geht viel einfacher, als ich es mir vorgestellt habe. Zum Beispiel ist es bisher unproblematisch an Trinkwasser zu kommen. Leitungswasser ist hier überall trinkbar. So muss ich nur in Bars oder bei Privathäusern danach fragen.

During this two last months I have learned a lot. Many things were much easier than I had expected. For example until now find drinking water was not problematic. Tap water is drinkable everywhere here. So I have only to ask in bars or in private properties.

Auch einen Zeltplatz zu finden ist meist einfach. Abends versuche ich möglichst Städte zu meiden, da es dort schwieriger ist einen sicheren Platz für die Nacht zu finden. Auf dem Land gibt es meistens genügend Wald zum Zelten. Falls das nicht geht, kann ich immer noch bei Landwirten oder Leuten mit großem Garten nach einem Zeltplatz fragen. Nur höchst selten werde ich abgewiesen.

Finding a land for camping is also usually easier. In the evening I try to avoid the most possible cities because it is there that it is the most difficult to find a safe place for the night. In the countryside there is usually enough forest to camp and if that is not working I can always ask to farmers or to people with a big garden for a field where to camp. It is very rare that I am rejected.

02.06.2016 – Kroatien

Schon nach kurzer Zeit war ich von meinem Schlenker in das Hinterland von Kroatien begeistert. Die kleinen Straßen sind in einem sehr guten Zustand und es gibt hier so gut wie keinen Verkehr. Alle 15 bis 30 Minuten kommt mal ein Auto vorbei, sonst herrscht nur pure Stille. So habe ich mir das vorgestellt. Hier kann man in Ruhe ohne den nervenden Verkehr, die Landschaft und die kleinen, oft sehr einfachen Dörfer bestaunen.

After a short time I was already delighted with my detour inland. The little roads are in very good condition and there is virtually no traffic. Only every 15 to 30 minutes is a car passing, otherwise there is just pure silence. As I expected it, here one can admire landscapes and little villages often very simple without the annoying traffic.

In den Dörfern habe ich manchmal den Eindruck, dass die Zeit stehen geblieben ist. Kühe, Hühner und Ziegen laufen frei durch den Ort und fast jedes Haus hat einen Selbstversorger-Garten.

In the villages I sometimes felt like the time had stopped , cows chickens and goats roam freely through the village and almost every house has an independent garden.

Die Häuser werden auch oft nicht sofort komplett fertig gebaut. Sondern hier baut man zunächst das Erdgeschoss, zieht schon mal ein und wenn dann Zeit und Geld da ist, baut man das nächste Stockwerk. Auffallend ist auch, wieviele Leute hier Deutsch sprechen. Sehr viele Kroaten haben in Deutschland gearbeitet. Ich bekomme von ihnen viel erzählt, über die Geschichte und Gegenwart von Kroatien.

Also houses are not immediately completely built. But here they build first the ground floor, you always need one and if time and money permit,  they build the next floor. What is also striking is that a lot of people speak German here. Lots of Croatians have worked in Germany.

Zwei Mal bin ich eingeladen worden und brauchte nicht im Zelt zu schlafen. Ich bekam sogar meine Wäsche gewaschen und wurde jeweils zum Essen eingeladen. Das freut mich natürlich riesig. Trotzdem habe ich wenn ich zu Gast bin, jedes Mal auch ein schlechtes Gewissen, da ich den Leuten ja nicht auf der Tasche liegen möchte.

I was received by many of them who explained the history and the present in Croatia. Twice I was invited so I do not have to sleep under the tent. I was even able to wash my clothes and each also invited me to dinner. This naturally pleased me enormously . However every time I am invited I feel guilty for living off people .
