Covenas – 21.01.2019

Von Medellin aus, lag nun wieder eine längere Etappe bis nach Cartagena an der Karibikküste vor mir./ t was a longer stage from Medellin to Cartagena at the Caribbean coast which lay ahead of me now.

Zunächst führte mich ein Teilabschnitt mit sehr steilen und anstrengenden Steigungen in die Berge. Außerdem regnete es viel und es war kalt. Ich fror und hatte sogar kein Gefühl mehr in den Fingern und Füßen.

The first section led me into the mountains, very steeply and very strenuously, indeed. Apart from all that it was raining heavily and it was very cold. I was freezing and I couldn’t feel my fingers and my feet any longer.

Einige Tage später hatte ich die letzte größere Steigung hinter mir gelassen und es ging steil und sehr lange bergab. / A few days later I had passed the last huge ascent and then the road went downhill very steeply and for a very long distance.

Es wurde immer heißer und schon bald konnte ich es kaum glauben, dass ich noch vor nicht allzulanger Zeit gefroren habe./ The temperature was increasing continuously and it felt unreal that I had been freezing to death only a short while ago.

An einem Nachmittag erreichte ich die Küste und begab ich mich auf die Suche nach einer Unterkunft./ One of these afternoons I got to the coast and went to look for a place to stay.

Ich sah ein Schild “Hostel rechts” bog ab und fand heraus, dass sich dieses Hostel noch im Bau befand. Der nette Besitzer erlaubte mir jedoch hier umsonst zu zelten. Ich lernte seine Familie kennen und schon bald war ich ein Teil von ihr.

I passed a sign „hostel to the right“ and had to learn that this hostel was still under construction. The owner was very nice, though, and allowed me to put up my tent there for free. I also met his family and soon I was part of them.

Er fuhr mich herum und zeigte mir den wunderschönen Sandstrand. / He took me for a tour around the place and showed me a wonderful sandy beach.

Ich entschied mich von hier aus einen Tagesausflug zu den karibischen Inseln zu unternehmen./ I decided to go for a day’s trip from there ot the West Indies.

Per Schnellboot mit drei beeindruckend großen Außenbordmotoren, schossen wir regelrecht hinaus aufs Meer. / We went by speedboat, equipped with three impressive big outboard engines, shooting out on the sea.

Nach mehrstündiger Fahrt durch recht ruhiges Meer erreichten wir unseren ersten Halt, die traumhafte Insel Mucura. / A couple of hours later we reached our first stop, the fantastically beautiful island named Mucura.

Auf dem Boot, auf dem ausschließlich kolumbianische Touristen waren, fand ich schnell Freunde. Mit ihnen verbrachte ich hier den Vormittag und aß zu Mittag. / There were only Colombian tourists on the boat, so I found some friends very easily. I spent the morning with them and we had lunch together, as well.

Dann ging es auch schon wieder zurück auf’s Boot, auf die mehrstündige rasante Rückfahrt./ Afterwards we went back onto the boat and braced ourselves for the speedy ride back.

Für mich als Europäer hätte die Bootfahrt sicher entspannter sein können, wenn man die ohrenbetäubende Musik aus den kratzenden Lautsprechern abgeschaltet hätte. Aber meinen Mitreisenden gefiel der Lärm anscheinend. In ganz Lateinamerika ertönt Musik immer gerne aus voll aufgedrehten kratzenden Lautsprechern. Ziemlich kommunikationstötend und für mich noch immer sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig.

I, being a European, could have enjoyed the trip much more, hadn’t there been the deafening, earsplitting music from raspy loudspeakers all the time. My fellow travelers apparently liked the noise. It is quite normal in Latin America to listen to music from fully cranked up raspy loudspeakers. As far as I’m concerned, this kills any possible communication and I can’t really get used to it.

Unterwegs machten noch einen Stopp bei der Insel Islote. / On our way back we stopped at the isle of Islote.

Diese Insel besteht aus nichts anderem als einem Dorf./ The whole island is nothing but a village.

Es gibt hier keinen Grünstreifen, keinen größeren Platz, die ganze Insel ist komplett mit Häusern zugebaut./ There is no grass strip, no larger amount of space, the entire island has been built over with houses.

Ein abgeschiedenes Dorf mitten in der Karibik. / A secluded village in the middle of the Caribbean.
