18.01.2017 – Indien

Bei der Weiterfahrt ab Goa, entschloss ich mich dagegen noch weiter nach Süden zu fahren und machte mich direkt auf den Weg in das über 2100 km entfernte Kalkutta. Von dort aus möchte ich nach Bangladesch weiterreisen. Diese riesengroße Strecke nahm ich mir vor, recht schnell zu befahren. Also machte ich mich auf den Weg.

Leaving Goa, I decided not to move further to the south, but to take the way straight to Kolkata which was 2.100 km away. I want to go to Bangladesh from there. I decided to travel this huge distance as fast as possible. So I set off to my trip.

In Indien habe ich mir mittlerweile angewöhnt öfter Stopps an Straßenrestaurants bzw. an kleinen Läden zu machen. Straßenrestaurants, das sind häufig mobile Handwagen oder einfachste Hütten am Straßenrand, in denen auf offenem Feuer gekocht wird. In den kleinen Läden werden oft nur ein paar Kekse verkauft.

In India, I got used to frequent stops at little wayside restaurants or small shops. These are mostly mobile trolleys or simple huts at the roadside where they cook on an open fire and the shops sometimes they don’t sell more than a few biscuits.

An einem Restaurant wollte ich etwas trinken, als ich einen heiligen Mann im orangen Gewand dort sitzen sah. Dessen Begleiter deutete mir an, ihm Respekt zu geben. Das ist in Indien die Geste der ‚Namaste‘ . Hierbei werden die Handflächen zusammen gelegt und sich leicht verbeugt. Ich deutete also diese Geste an und der heilige Mann gestikulierte, dass ich ihm eine Pepsi kaufen sollte. Ich merkte gleich, dass es wohl besser ist, seinem Wunsch zu entsprechen. Nachdem er seine Cola getrunken hatte, war er sichtbar dankbar und ich machte ein Foto mit ihm. Danach bot er mir sogar an, mit ihm ‚dem heiligen Mann‘ zusammen, Marihuana zu rauchen.

At one restaurant I wanted to buy something to drink when I spotted a Holy Man in an orange dress sitting there. His companion made me understand that I should pay respect to him. The Indian gesture for that is „Namaste“. You place your palms together and then you bow to him. I indicated this gesture and the Holy Man gestured to me that I should buy him a Pepsi. I thought that it would be better to comply with his desire. After having had his Coke he was very grateful and I took a photo with him and myself. Afterwards he offered me to smoke some Marijuana with him, the „Holy Man“.

Weiter ging es an einer Ziegelei vorbei, bei der in mühsamer Handarbeit, teilweise sogar mit Kinderarbeit, aus Lehm Ziegelsteine geformt werden. Diese werden zunächst sonnengetrocknet, anschließend dann aufgetürmt und durch Kohlefeuer gebrannt. Dabei entsteht viel ungesunder Qualm.

My journey took me past a brick factory where they make bricks out of clay by hand – which is a most laborious task and done by children as well. The bricks are first dried in the sun, then piled up and last baked in coal fires. That causes a lot of unhealthy smoke.

Ich kam an der historischen Stätte Hampi vorbei und besichtigte die alten Tempel- und Palastanlage. Die Ruinen sind echt beeindruckend.

I traveled past Hampi and visited the old temple and the palace complex. I was very impressed by the ruins.

Ich hielt mich hier aber nicht lange auf und setzte meine Reise fort.

But I didn’t stay there too long and went on with my trip.
