Ich hatte gelesen, dass am Grenzübergang zwischen der Enklave des Emirats Dubai und Oman, keine Visumgebühren erhoben werden. Aber das war wohl eine Fehlinformation.

As I had read previously, they don’t ask for visa fees at the border checkpoint between the enclave of Dubai and Oman. This was a misinformation. I had to pay 10 Euros for my departure of the Emirates. I’ve never experienced anything like that before: having to pay for leaving a country! First, I thought this might be a case of curruption but it was written on the notice board at the checkpoint.

Schon allein für die Ausreise aus den Emiraten musste ich 10 Euro bezahlen. So etwas habe ich noch nie erlebt, dass man für die Ausreise bezahlt. Erst dachte ich, dass dies ein Fall von Korruption ist. Doch diese Gebühr stand angeschlagen am Checkpoint.

Afterwards, I got a piece of paper on the Oman side but no entry stamp on it. I was worried about being there illegally and was on the verge of going back to ask them if they had forgotten to put the stamp on the paper, when I passed yet another checkpoint, another visa center. I had to buy a visa there again. A visa for one month was about 50 Euros.

Danach bekam ich auf der omanischen Seite nur ein Zettel in die Hand gedrückt aber keinen Einreisestempel. Ich machte mir schon Sorgen, ob sie den Stempel vergessen hätten und ich nun illegal im Land reise. Ich war kurz davor noch einmal zurückzufahren, als ich an einem weiteren Checkpoint, einer Visaausgabestelle vorbeikam. Hier musste ich dann doch noch ein Visum kaufen. Ein Monatsvisa hat rund 50 Euro gekostet.

Danach fuhr ich weiter. Als als ich schon ca. eine Stunde gefahren war, hielt ich an, um zu schauen was jetzt in meinem Pass genau stand. Erschrocken stellte ich fest, dass mir nur ein 10 Tagevisum gegeben worden ist. Ich hatte aber für 1 Monat bezahlt.

Then I went on. After having been on the road for an hour, I stopped in order to check the entry in my passport. I wanted to see what exactly they had entered in it. I was alarmed because they had given me a visa for only 10 days. I had paid for a whole month, though. 

Es half alles nichts, ich musste noch einmal zur Grenze zurück. Ich hatte aber echt keine Lust nochmal zurück zu radeln und so probierte ich zu trampen.

So, I couldn’t help but travel back to the border. But I really didn’t feel like riding back the whole distance. So I tried to hitchhike. One of the very first cars gave me and my bike a lift. The driver was very kind and he changed the rest of my money into Omani Rials. He even gave me something to drink on my way.

Schon eines der ersten Autos, nahm mein Fahrrad und mich mit. Der Fahrer war sehr nett und wechselte mein restliches Geld in omanische Rial und gab mir noch etwas zu trinken mit auf den Weg !

At the border checkpoint, the same clerk as before changed my visa and wrote 01-01-2016 in it as the date of my departure from Oman. I suggested that he meant the 01-01-2017, he apologized and changed the date again. I went back the same way as two hours previously. At dusk, I went to a beach nearby, listened to the sound of the sea in silence and finally crawled into my tent.

An der Visa-Ausgabestelle änderte der gleiche Beamte wie vorher, mein Visum und schrieb als Ausreisedatum den 01.01.2016, in meinen Pass. Nach meinem Einwand: „Sie meinten den 01.01.2017 ? “ änderte er das Datum erneut. Er entschuldigte sich und ich fuhr wieder denselben Weg, wie vor zwei Stunden. In der Dämmerung begab ich mich zu einem nahen Strand, hörte schweigend dem Meeresrauschen zu und verkroch mich schließlich in mein Zelt.
