Weiter geht’s! Mit absoluter Überbreite mache ich mich auf, ab in den Großstadtdschungel von Sydney./ Let’s go! I undertake entering the city jungle of Sydney with my exessively overwide load.

Zusätzlich zu all meinem Gepäck habe ich noch einen zusammengerollten Fahrradkarton unförmig auf den Gepäckträger gespannt. / In addition to my normal luggage, I’ve got a bycicle carton rolled up and tightened to my luggage rack.

„Wie werden die anderen Verkehrsteilnehmer (oder die Verkehrspolizei) auf diese gewagte Konstruktion reagieren?“ Mein Ziel heute: Der Flughafen von Sydney, der am anderen Ende der Stadt liegt. / „How will the other road users (or the traffic police) react to this adventurous structure?“ My aim today: Sydney Airport, at the other end of the city.

Ja, es geht endlich wieder weiter – nach Neuseeland! / Well yes, I’m moving on – to New Zealand!

Zunächst muß ich aber mit dem Rad quer durch die Stadt. Nur einmal nehme ich die Fähre, um mir etwas vom chaotischen Stadtverkehr zu ersparen. /  First of all, I have to cross the city on my bike. Contrary to my fears, the car drivers don’t worry about my extra wide vehicle. Nobody complains and I don’t get caught anywhere with my carton. Nor do the police care about me in the least.

Doch anders als befürchtet, nehmen die Autofahrer mein überbreites Gefährt gelassen hin. Niemand beschwert sich und ich bleibe auch nirgends mit dem Karton hängen. Auch die Polizei interessiert sich nicht im Geringsten für mich. / Contrary to my fears, the car drivers don’t worry about my extra wide vehicle. Nobody complains and I don’t get caught anywhere with my carton. Nor do the police care about me in the least.

So komme ich gut am Flughafen an und beginne mein Fahrrad auseinander zu bauen. Dann verstaue ich es vorschriftsmäßig in dem so aufwendig mitgeschleppten Karton, damit es auch unversehrt in Neuseeland ankommt. Ich arbeite routiniert. Mein Fahrrad kenne ich ja mittlerweile in- und auswendig.

I reach the airport safely and start dismantling my bike. Then I tuck it away as instructed in my carton, to make sure it arrives safely at New Zealand. I work in a well-versed way. After all, I know my bike in and out by this time.

Nach einer Stunde bin ich fertig, begebe mich zum Check-in und habe Glück. Trotz insgesamt 44 Kilogramm Gepäck (incl. Fahrrad) und damit 4 kg über dem Limit, wird mir keine zusätzliche Gebühr berechnet. /It only takes me an hour. Then I go to the check-in point and I’m lucky. Although my luggage weighs 44 kilos (including my bike), which is 4 kilos over limit, I don’t have to pay any additional fee.

Auf geht es nun nach Christchurch / Neuseeland! / Christchurch / New Zealand, I’m coming!
