In Kalkutta verbrachte ich einige Tage bei meinem Warmshower-Gastgeber.Ich wartete dort erfolglos auf mein Navi-Gerät und versuchte in den jeweiligen Landesvertretungen die Visa für Bangladesh und Myanmar zu beantragen.

I stayed for a few days with my Warmshowers host in Kolkata. There I kept waiting for my navigation device, but in vain. At the same time I tried to get my visas for Bangladesh and Myanmar at the appropriate Embassies.

Die Beantragung des Bangladeshvisums gab ich direkt wieder dran, denn ich musste feststellen, dass die Wartezeit um die Botschaft überhaupt betreten zu können, 3 Tage dauerte. Auf ein 3 Tage langes Campieren vor dem Gebäude hatte ich aber überhaupt keine Lust.

I gave up trying to get my visa for Bangladesh as soon as I found out that it would take three days only to be allowed to enter the Embassy. I didn’t feel like camping for three days in front of the building in the least.

Deshalb beschloss ich meine Reiseroute zu ändern und von Kalkutta aus, über die indischen Städte Siliguri und Impahal, Bangladesh komplett zu umfahren.

Therefore, I decided to change my itinerary and to go from Kolkata via the Indian towns of Siliguri and Impahal, thus bypassing Bangladesh completely.

Auch die Beantragung des Visums für Myanmar war umständlich. Ich erfuhr, dass ich dafür als erstes eine Bestätigung benötige, dass die staatliche Touristenagentur eine Genehmigung für den Grenzübertritt von Indien nach Myanmar auf dem Landweg, ausstellen wird. Diese Genehmigung kostet rund 170 US Dollar!! Um das anschließende Visum zu erhalten benötigte ich rund eine Woche und zahlte noch einmal 40 US Dollar.

It wasn’t easy to get the visa for Myanmar, either. They told me that I had to get a certification first to say that the national tourist agency would grant authorization for crossing the border from India to Myanmar overland. This cost me 170 €. It took me another week to get the actual visa afterwards, and I had to pay another $40.

My host, who was terribly nice, couldn’t keep me with him much longer as he went on vacation then, that’s why I moved into a hotel.

Mein supernetter Gastgeber fuhr währenddessen in Urlaub und konnte mich nicht länger beherbergen, deshalb begab ich mich in ein Hotel.

Nachdem ich die erste Nacht in einer heruntergekommenen Absteige verbrachte, hatte ich die Nase voll. Ich entschied mich in einem 35,- € teurem und luxuriösem Hotel zu übernachten, um einmal richtig zu entspannen.

After having spent the first night in a run-down flophouse, I was sick and tired of that. So, I decided to stay over in a luxurious and very expensive hotel, at 35 € a night, in order to relax properly and to get a good rest.
