30.05.2017 – Indonesien

Weiter auf Java, ging es für mich durch ein bergiges Teeanbaugebiet Richtung Bandung. / Traveling through Java in the direction of Bandung, I passed a hilly area where they grew tea.

Unterwegs wurde ich von einer Lehrerfamilie eingeladen. Sie hatten einen freilaufenden großen Gecko an der Wand sitzen, der von ihnen geduldet wurde, weil er die Insekten fraß.

Along the way I was invited by a teacher’s family. They owned a big free-running gecko sitting on the wall which they tolerated because it ate all the insects.

In Bandung war ich wieder bei einem Fahrradclub eingeladen./ In Bandung I was invited at a cyclists‘ club again.

Bandung sieht auf der Landkarte recht unbedeutend aus. Bei der Fahrt in das Stadtzentrum hinein merkte ich aber schnell, dass es eine sehr große Stadt ist. Dennoch war ich sehr erstaunt, als ich erfuhr dass es sich um eine Multi-Millionen-Stadt handelt. Indonesien zählt zu den bevölkerungsreichsten Ländern der Welt. Da die Menschen wesentlich enger zusammengedrängt wohnen und nur wenige ein Auto besitzen, sind die Städte viel kompakter als bei uns.

Bandung looks quite insignificant on the map. Coming into the center of the city, I found out qickly that it is a very large town. Still I was surprised when I learned that it is a multi-million-city. Indonesia is one of the most populous countries in the world. People live in very cramped conditions and very few of them have a car, so the towns are much more compact that in our country.

Meine neue Warm-Showers-Unterkunft lag in einem ruhig gelegenen Hinterhof des Fahrradclubs Fat Trucks. Alle Clubmitglieder waren sehr freundlich. / My new Warmshowers accommodation was situated in a quiet backyard of the cycle club Fat Trucks. All members of the club were most friendly.

 Während meines Aufenthalts dort, traf ich auch einige Mitglieder des Fahrradclubs Goss. / During my stay there I also met some members of the cycle club Goss.

 

Sie luden mich für den nächsten Tag zu einer Stadtrundfahrt ein, die sich dann zu einer Art Shopping Marathon entwickelte. / They invited me to go on a city tour with them the following day which ended in a kind of shopping marathon.

Denn ich entdeckte die unglaublich günstigen indonesischen Preise . Unter anderem kaufte ich mir ein neues Zelt mit Moskitonetz und Überdach und bestellte mir eine neue Brille, die nur ein Bruchteil einer Brille in Deutschland kostete.

This was because I discovered how extremely cheap Indonesian prices are. Among other things I bought a new tent with mosquito netting and a flysheet, I ordered new specs which only cost a fraction of the price in Germany.

Der ganze Fahrradclub begleitete mich in die Läden und handelte für mich jeweils einen guten Preis aus. / The entire cycling club accompanied me into the shops and negotiated the best price for me.

Die letzte Nacht in Bandung übernachtete ich bei einem Mitglied des Fahrradclubs. Er hat einen Sohn, der in Deutschland lebt und zeigte mir ein Fotoalbum aus seiner Zeit in Deutschland./ The last night in Bandung I stayed with a member of the cycle club. His son lives in Germany and he showed me a photo album of his time there.

Although everybody was fasting, they accompanied me quite a long way the next day, he and all the members of the cycling club Goss, on my way to Tasikmalaya.

Obwohl alle fasteten, wurde ich am nächsten Tag von ihm und den Mitgliedern des Fahrradclubs Goss noch ein langes Stück auf meiner Weiterfahrt Richtung Tasikmalaya begleitet.

Beeindruckend dieses Durchhaltevermögen. /I was most impressed by their stamina.

Als Abschiedsgeschenk gaben sie mir ein Trikot und eine Fahrradklingel. /They gave me a shirt and a bike bell for a farewell present.
